GLOBAL INITIATIVE

Clean Water Appeal: Water Is Life, Health, and Dignity

In acute humanitarian emergencies, clean water is almost always the first lifeline to vanish. When municipal networks break down or floodwaters contaminate open wells, families are forced to rely on stagnant, polluted sources—fueling deadly surges of cholera, acute diarrhea, and parasitic infections that prey heavily on malnourished children.

The scope of this crisis is staggering: in Sudan, an estimated 17 million people lack access to safe drinking water. In Yemen, more than 14.4 million civilians require emergency water and sanitation assistance. Across Syria, historic drought and low river levels have stripped clean water access from over 5 million people, turning daily hydration into an exhausting battle for survival.

What Crisis Bridge Is Doing

Across high-risk settlements and disaster corridors in Sudan, Yemen, Syria, and Pakistan, Crisis Bridge teams and vetted local water engineering partners are actively deploying comprehensive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) interventions:

  • Emergency Potable Water Trucking: Delivering treated drinking water fleets directly to makeshift camps and informal settlements lacking municipal connections.
  • Community Storage Bladders & Tapstands: Installing high-capacity water tanks, communal bladder reservoirs, and multi-tap stations to eliminate hours of dangerous walking for mothers and girls.
  • Household Filtration & Chlorination: Distributing micro-filtration ceramic filters, water chlorination tablets, and safe, sealable jerrycans to prevent recontamination.
  • Cholera Prevention & Hygiene Kits: Equipping families with medical-grade disinfectant soaps, personal hygiene products, and oral rehydration salt packets to stem infection outbreaks.

Frontline Dispatch

“We used to boil water scooped from open runoff just to keep the children from crying.”

Living in a spontaneous displacement shelter with her four young children, Nadia used to walk two hours every morning to fetch muddy water from an unprotected pond. Despite her best efforts to boil it over scavenged plastic scraps, her two-year-old son, Bilal, suffered repeated bouts of debilitating waterborne diarrhea.

A Crisis Bridge WASH team installed a 5,000-liter chlorinated distribution bladder in her camp quadrant and provided each tent with sealable containers, soap packs, and household filtration kits. “Having clean, safe water right by our tents changed everything. Bilal hasn’t had a fever since, and my daughters can sleep safely without making the dangerous walk at dawn,” Nadia told our team.
